Possibly headed to a 12 Step Program to wean myself away from the Thermowell. Tonight's quiche was over the top perfection with 20 minutes of gas and about an hour of retained heat. This afternoon's apple pie, same heat formula & well, that had me drooling before I ever took it out of the well. I find myself using the Thermowell several times a day and cooking entire meals in it with little issue. If I had another Thermowell, I could cook like a demon. So, the issue of the moment is this: Chambers offered the fourth burner option in place of the Thermowell...you think it is possible to eliminate a burner and create a second Thermowell ? It's either a second Thermowell or a second stove...either will do but I think the second stove may cost me a marriage.

Aside from the marriage issues... THe first problem I can see is the stove top. The thermowell opening is bigger than the other burner openings. This wasn't a problem with the 4 burner models, the 4th burner is bigger. Bigger burner, pan and grate.

You're so obsessed you posted it twice!
The hole for the thermowell is larger than the burner hole. That would be quite an obstacle to overcome, but, hey, anything is possible.
Didn't Chambers or some other company make a self contained thermowell back in the early part of the century?

Ha-

Start thinking of the oven as a big thermowell, maybe??? After all, the idle hour cookbooks talk about putting the t-well pots in the oven too. I've never used them there yet, but it would fit about 2 sets of whichever you needed to use, if not a bit more.

I always seem to be using one or another of my Lisk roasters when I'm cooking a meal with the oven, so there hasn't been room for any other pots! But I can see how convenient it would be to have a bunch of smaller pots in the oven at once, as long as you got the timing right to CWTGO for a variety of different things together.

I was going to post the same thing as Tux. Learn to use the oven like the overgrown T-well that it is. You've already got a safety system installed, and therefore have the standing pilot you need to make the two pretty much equivalent.

It's got to be easier than learning to live without your Better Half!!

Tux and Chipper, Thanks for putting me back on track. After making overnioght oatmeal, another apple pie and yet another quiche, I read your posts and realized you, ofcourse, are right ! Peter and I are hosting Thanksgiving Dinner in our home and I'm looking forward to pulling all those aluminum containers out of the oven, you know, make it into a big show for the uninitiated. When I showed the stove off to two friends, sisters, they broke into giggles and said "Look ! He cooks with Girlscout camping gear!"

Girlscout camping gear?!

Does that mean we should all raid our local Scout camps to find their stash of wear ever pots?

Asfan,

I have practically worn out my single pot for the T-well!! It is getting so thin & pitted and am scared it might "spring a leak". I suspect the acid from my tomatoe stock is to blame and me scrubbing. Mine is old, old, old. Has anyone run into this problem?? Is there a "coating" or something that can be applied?? Any thoughts or suggestions??
Do I need to raid a girl or better yet a boy scout campout?? My luck it would be a "dutch oven cooking" merit badge weekend. In that case, I would paper the camp and lift all their tent stakes out of the ground!!

That's my story...........
